Description

Beryllium Copper Guide Sleeve for Precision Mold & Die Applications — High Hardness, Anti-Galling Performance

JYDS has focused on metallurgical manufacturing for almost 25 years, with a focus on copper alloy fabrication since 1997. The dimensions of our Beryllium Copper Guide Sleeve are 4–250 mm on the inside and 8–300 mm on the outside, with bore tolerances controlled to within ±0.005 mm. It is made of C17200 (Alloy 25/CuBe2). It has a hardness of 36-42 HRC, tensile strength 1100-1400 MPa and thermal conductivity of 105-130 W/m.K after precipitation hardening. All sleeves are delivered with EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate and conform to ISO 5182, AMS 4650 and ASTM B196 standards.

What Is a Beryllium Copper Guide Sleeve?

In demanding industrial applications, moving shafts, pins, and rods are guided by a precisely constructed cylindrical part called a beryllium copper guide sleeve. It is made of C17200 copper-beryllium alloy, which effectively addresses three particular issues that conventional bronze or steel bushings are unable to:

  • Steel-on-steel contact causes catastrophic galling.
  • Heat buildup in high-speed molds results in thermal expansion jams.
  • Standard bronze bushings disintegrate too quickly under high-cycle loads.

The C17200 alloy is used by procurement teams and tooling specialists worldwide because to its unique metallurgical structure, which simultaneously addresses all three issues.

Key Performance Advantages

Anti-Galling & Self-Lubricating: C17200 reduces friction and stops metal transfer, fretting, and scuffing by forming a compact oxide layer that functions as a dry lubricant.

Quick Heat Dissipation: Because high-speed moulds have two to three times the thermal conductivity of aluminium bronze, they avoid obstructions and thermal expansion.

High Wear Resistance: Over long stamping, injection moulding, and die casting cycles, aged hardness of 36–42 HRC maintains steady performance.

Stable Dimensional Accuracy: accurate honing and grinding control surface finish up to Ra 0.2–0.4 µm and bore cylindricity within ±0.005 mm.

Low permeability works well in combustible settings, prevents signal interference, and resists oxidation and corrosion. It is also non-corrosive, non-magnetic, and resistant to sparks.

Typical Application Scenarios

Guide sleeves made of beryllium copper are used in a variety of precise industrial applications:

Ejector and guide pin bushings regulate mold flash and adjust to high-cycle operation in injection molding molds.

Die casting equipment: Maintains steady performance below 300°C while withstanding thermal stress and metal degradation.

For high-speed stamping, progressive dies maintain guiding stability while supporting lateral stresses.

Precision semiconductor test fixtures: Provide non-magnetic, very stable guiding for test probes.

Quality Control & Testing Protocol

Every product undergoes a three-stage quality inspection:

Raw materials must pass ICP-OES composition detection in order to ensure a standard beryllium content.

The whole heat treatment and processing process is monitored in real time to stabilize material performance.

Spectral analysis, hardness testing, surface roughness testing, and CMM dimensional inspection are applied to completed items.

Ultrasonic testing can be used to examine the interiors of large-diameter products.

Complete material traceability records and 3.1 test certificates are included with every batch.

FAQ

Q1: Why should guide sleeves be made of beryllium copper rather than aluminum bronze?
A1: It provides longer service life and more consistent heat dissipation for high-speed molds due to its increased hardness and two to three times higher thermal conductivity than aluminum bronze.

Q2: Are guide sleeves made of solid beryllium copper safe to use on a regular basis?
A2: Finished solid products pose no harm to operators. Dust and fume protection is only required for dry grinding and welding procedures.

Q3: How does the product prevent steel pin galling?
A3: During operation, a stable oxide lubricating layer develops on the contact surface, preventing galling and cold welding between metal surfaces.

Q4: What is the highest temperature at which the sleeve can function?
A4: Its mechanical properties remain stable below 300°C. The material will age and lose hardness if the temperature is too high.

Q5: Can you process products according to client drawings?
A5: Yes, we provide full custom machining according to the client's size, tolerance, and surface quality requirements.
