Description

Beryllium Copper Contact Strip for Electronic Contacts & EMI Shielding — Precision-Rolled, Spring-Ready Solution

The precision-rolled alloy strip known as Beryllium Copper Contact Strip (UNS C17200 / CuBe2 / Alloy 25) is intended for a variety of electrical contact and spring applications. With more than 25 years of expertise in metallurgical manufacturing, Dongguan Jiaye Dingsheng Precision Casting & Forging Co., Ltd. has focused on producing beryllium copper since 1997. The strip has electrical conductivity of 22–25% IACS, tensile strength of 1110–1320 MPa, and widths up to 300 mm. Its thicknesses range from 0.05 mm to 1.5 mm. Supported by ISO 9001 and RoHS certification, it is available in TB00 annealed, H02/H04 pre-tempered, and TF00 completely aged states. Each batch is given an EN 10204 3.1 MTC.

What Is Beryllium Copper Contact Strip?

Beryllium Copper Contact Strip is a thin-gauge precision strip composed of C17200 alloy with at least 0.20% cobalt and nickel and 1.80–2.00% beryllium. It may be stamped and treated in a soft or half-hard state. After precipitation heat treatment, it achieves 36–42 HRC hardness and 950–1180 MPa yield strength. This processing feature makes it appropriate for applications requiring spring memory, low contact resistance, and fatigue resistance, such as electronic switch contacts, relay blades, EMI/RFI shielding gaskets, and spring fingers.

Performance Advantages

The strip maintains stable low contact resistance during repeated mating, stabilizing signal transmission for precision switches, connectors and relays. With yield strength up to 1180 MPa, it keeps steady contact pressure without permanent deformation during long-term cyclic use. It resists mechanical and thermal relaxation under 200°C working environment, avoiding connection instability caused by declining clamping force.

With magnetic permeability below 1.001, it adapts to precision instruments and communication equipment that require zero magnetic interference. Its stable conductivity and spring back force can form low-impedance contact structures, blocking electromagnetic leakage for EMI/RFI shielding scenarios.

Application Scenarios

It is widely used in multiple industries: aerospace and defense avionic shielding components adapting to extreme temperature and pressure changes; 5G communication base stations and high-speed router high-frequency contact parts; automotive EV BMS and inverter vibration-resistant conductive contacts; consumer and industrial electronic relays, microswitches and circuit breaker components.

Application Fields

Formability & Heat Treatment Process

The annealed TB00 strip supports tight-radius bending and complex stamping without cracking. Formed parts can be heated at 315°C for 2–3 hours for precipitation hardening, with no dimensional distortion after treatment. Pre-tempered H02/H04 and fully hardened TF00 finished strips are also available to meet diverse processing and installation needs.

Quality Control & Certification

All products adopt three-stage inspection including incoming material check, in-process monitoring and finished product verification. We conduct OES composition analysis, hardness testing and dimensional calibration for each batch. Complete EN 10204 3.1 test reports and full production traceability are provided to ensure product consistency.

FAQ

Q1: Why use this beryllium copper strip for shielding gaskets instead of stainless steel?
A1: Stainless steel has low electrical conductivity, while C17200 strip features higher conductivity and fatigue resistance, fitting long-term cyclic working shielding scenarios.

Q2: What temper is suitable for stamping complex contact parts?
A2: Choose TB00 annealed temper for stamping, then conduct 315°C aging treatment to reach standard hardness and spring performance.

Q3: How does aging hardening improve contact stability?
A3: Aging treatment increases yield strength, enabling the strip to maintain stable spring tension and contact force during millions of mating cycles.

Q4: Does the product meet RoHS compliance?
A4: Finished solid C17200 strip conforms to RoHS and REACH regulations, with official compliance documents provided.

Q5: What plating options are available for different contact scenarios?
A5: Gold plating for signal contacts, tin plating for solderable connections, and nickel plating as diffusion barrier for high-temperature applications.

Q6: What documents can be provided for orders?
A6: Each order is equipped with 3.1 MTC test reports, covering composition, hardness and conductivity data, together with compliance certificates.
