Description

C17200 Beryllium Copper Square Bar – High-Strength Alloy 25 for Precision Industrial Applications

C17200 Beryllium Copper Square Bar (Alloy 25) is a high quality copper based alloy comprising 1.8% to 2.0% beryllium and minimum 0.20% cobalt + nickel. Precipitation hardening gives it tensile strength up to 1400 MPa and Rockwell hardness of HRC 30–45, highest of any copper alloy. It has 17-25% IACS electrical conductivity, density of 8.26 g/cm3, and melting point of 865-980°C. It produces a strength to conductivity ratio that ordinary tool steels cannot approach. This material has been produced by Dongguan Jiaye Dingsheng Precision Casting & Forging Co., Ltd. since 1997, backed by vacuum melting, precision rolling and ISO 9001 quality monitoring.

What Is C17200 Beryllium Copper Square Bar?

The most popular grade is beryllium copper C17200 (sometimes termed Alloy 25). The square bar shape is extremely popular with precision machining applications.

The parallel flat surfaces of a square section give direct reference points for CNC fixturing. This minimises set up time and enhances dimensional accuracy when cutting internal ports, manifold blocks or tool parts.

Square bars are more economical in material waste than round bars, and enable closer tolerances on the geometry of the completed object. For those reasons, engineers in mould manufacturing, aircraft and precision electronics choose this form factor.

Chemical Composition & Key Specifications

Property Value
Beryllium (Be) Content 1.8% – 2.0%
Cobalt + Nickel (Co + Ni) ≥ 0.20%
Copper (Cu) Balance
Density 8.26 g/cm³
Melting Point 865 – 980°C
Elastic Modulus 131 GPa
Tensile Strength (Aged) Up to 1400 MPa
Yield Strength (TF00) 1100 – 1300 MPa
Rockwell Hardness (Aged) HRC 30 – 45

Magnetic Permeability < 1.0001
Standard Compliance ASTM B196, AMS 4533/4534
Available Tempers TD04 (Cold Worked), TF00 (Solution Treated & Aged)

TD04 vs. TF00: TD04 is work-hardened (hard drawn), offering good strength with moderate ductility. TF00 is solution heat-treated and then precipitation aged, delivering maximum hardness and mechanical performance.

Core Material Advantages

  • Stable mechanical strength: Aged strength matches many tool steels while retaining copper’s thermal and conductive properties, resisting deformation under cyclic load.

  • Non-sparking and non-magnetic: Low magnetic permeability adapts to precision electronic equipment; non-sparking performance fits flammable and explosive working scenarios.

  • Efficient heat dissipation: Standard thermal conductivity helps release heat quickly, reducing thermal accumulation of molds and welding fixtures.

  • Corrosion and fatigue resistance: Tolerates chloride and marine corrosion, and resists surface galling for long-term cyclic working components.

Quality Control Process

All square bars undergo multi-stage inspection before despatch, including ICP-OES component verification, batch hardness testing, grain structure analysis, ultrasonic internal fault identification, conductivity calibration and dimensional inspection.

Full batch traceability is achieved by providing comprehensive MTC test results with each shipment.

Typical Application Areas

The alloy is used for mould hot runner parts and core pins for heat dissipation and wear resistance. It is employed in aircraft fasteners and sensor housings that need nonmagnetic properties. It is also suitable for electronic contact parts, mining explosion proof tools and resistance welding fixture parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is the difference between TD04 and TF00?
A1: TD04 is cold-worked with strong ductility for secondary processing. TF00 is age-hardened for higher strength, suited to precision load-bearing components.

Q2: What safety precautions need to be taken for machining?
A2: Use wet machining or dust extraction equipment to prevent inhalation of beryllium-containing dust and maintain workplace safety.

Q3: How about corrosion resistance?
A3: It is suitable for marine and acidic settings and has better stress corrosion resistance than 300-series stainless steel under chloride conditions.

Q4: Why is square bar used for manifold blocks?
A4: The flat surfaces allow simple clamping and accurate hole machining, while offering reliable sealing accuracy for high-pressure parts.

Q5: What qualification documents can you offer?
A5: EN 10204 3.1 MTC reports complying with ISO 9001, RoHS and REACH are provided.
