Description
C17200 Beryllium Copper Plate ASTM B194 for Mold & Industrial Applications — High Strength, Rapid Cooling
The C17200 Beryllium Copper Plate Astm B194 is a precipitation-hardening copper alloy plate made to the ASTM B194 standard for copper-beryllium plate, sheet, strip and rolled bar products. The material is also known as Alloy 25 or CuBe2. It includes 1.80-2.00% beryllium with tensile strength up to 1,320 MPa and thermal conductivity of 105-125 W/m. K.
Dongguan Jiaye Dingsheng Precision Casting & Forging Co., Ltd. was founded in 1997, with more than 25 years professional production experience in beryllium copper. All plates are vacuum melted with precision rolled and regulated TF00 age hardening with thicknesses from 12mm to 200mm with full MTC 3.1 traceable papers.

What Is C17200 Beryllium Copper Plate ASTM B194?
The C17200 beryllium copper alloy offers the structural integrity of high strength steel combined with the thermal and electrical qualities of pure copper. The steady performance is achieved by two-stage heat treatment involving solution annealing and precipitation hardening at around 315 °C.
When compared to traditional surface-hardened tool steels, the completed plate possesses a consistent hardness of 36–42 HRC over the whole thickness, with a lower core hardness. ASTM B194 is a standard that controls the product dimensional tolerances, chemical composition range and mechanical testing techniques to ensure consistent batch consistency of C17200 Beryllium Copper Plate ASTM B194.
Chemical Composition
| Element | Content |
|---|---|
| Beryllium (Be) | 1.80 – 2.00% |
| Cobalt + Nickel (Co+Ni) | Min. 0.20% |
| Copper (Cu) | Balance |
The cobalt and nickel additions act as grain refiners during age hardening. They stabilize the microstructure and prevent over-aging at elevated temperatures, which keeps hardness consistent even in continuous high-temperature mold operations.
Mechanical & Physical Properties
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Temper Condition | TF00 (Solution Treated + Age Hardened) |
| Tensile Strength | 1,110 – 1,320 MPa |
| Yield Strength | 950 – 1,150 MPa |
| Hardness | 36 – 42 HRC / 350 – 420 HV |
| Thermal Conductivity | 105 – 125 W/m·K |
| Electrical Conductivity | 22 – 25% IACS |
| Elastic Modulus | 131 GPa |
| Density | 8.26 g/cm³ |
| Melting Point | ~865°C |
The thermal conductivity is roughly 3 to 5 times higher than standard tool steel. This directly translates into faster heat extraction from mold cavities and shorter cycle times.

Key Performance Advantages for Mold Applications
Fast cooling speed: Thermal conductivity is above 105 W/m·K, to achieve quicker heat removal from injection mould cavities and improve production efficiency without changing equipment.
36-42 HRC Full layer homogeneous hardness across the whole plate, suitable for high injection pressure and long-term continuous clamping operation
Thermal fatigue resistance Unique fine grain structure prevents heat checking failure due to continuous heating and cooling in plastic manufacturing
Wear and Galling Resistance: Resist friction and abrasion of moving mould elements, ejector pins and abrasive resin flow
Good polishability Uniform microstructure may be mirror polished to satisfy the processing requirements of optical, medical and electronic precision products.
Quality Control & Inspection Process
All C17200 Beryllium Copper Plate ASTM B194 items are tested in 3 stages before delivery. OES or ICP are used to test raw materials for Beryllium content compliance. Real time monitoring of temperature and pressure throughout production; detection of hardness and microstructure after heat treatment. Final inspection includes hardness testing, dimensional calibration, flatness detection and non-destructive testing for interior faults. All shipments are supplied with EN 10204 3.1 test certifications and meet ISO 9001, RoHS and REACH regulations.

Typical Application Industries
The product is widely used in plastic injection molds, blow molds, resistance welding equipment, aerospace parts and precision electronics, including mold cavity blocks, core inserts, welding fixtures, bearing components and precision tooling blanks.

FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between age hardened plate and solution annealed plate?
A1: Temper A (solution annealed) plates are soft and easily secondary processed. TF00 age-hardening plates are heat treated at 315°C with 36–42 HRC hardness and ready to use directly in moulds.
Q2: Is Beryllium Copper Plate ASTM B194 easy to machine?
A2: Solid plates may be machined as usual. When grinding and welding, use ventilation and dust filtering equipment to prevent inhalation of beryllium particles.
Q3: What makes astm b194 different from astm b196?
A3: ASTM B194 is for plates, sheets and strips ASTM B196 is for rods and bars,
Q4: Will the alloy work for cryogenic conditions?
A4: It has strong ductility and better tensile strength at low temperature, appropriate for low temperature precision equipment.
Q5: What documents are provided with shipment?
A5: Each order is attached with EN 10204 3.1 test certificates with complete material composition and performance test data.
