Description

Chromium Copper Electrode Plate for Resistance Welding & EDM — High Conductivity, Long Service Life

The Chromium Copper Electrode Plate is a precipitation hardened copper alloy part with RWMA Class 2 ratings and includes the grades C18200 and C18150. It has electrical conductivity >80%IACS and hardness of 75-85HRB with 0.5-1.2% chromium.

Its softening temperature is 475-500°C substantially greater than that of pure copper. Thermal conductivity is roughly 320 W/m.K, to facilitate quick heat dissipation during high cycle welding operations. Dongguan Jiaye Dingsheng Precision Casting & Forging Co., Ltd. was founded in 1997. The plates are made via integrated vacuum melting and full-process inspection. We will quote you within 24 hours and deliver from stock within 3-5 days.

What Is a Chromium Copper Electrode Plate?

The alloy plate is suitable for industrial applications needing a consistent electrical conductivity and mechanical strength at high temperature. Pure copper is quickly softened under the heat of welding, which leads to electrode deformation and mushrooming problems.

The introduction of chromium and professional precipitation hardening treatment ensures that Chromium Copper Electrode Plate retains the stable form and conductivity in repeated welding cycles, lowering the frequency of electrode maintenance and cutting down production operating expenses.

Material Composition & Alloy Structure

The product adopts high-purity copper as the base material with 0.5%–1.2% chromium added. C18150 grade contains trace zirconium, improving high-temperature softening resistance compared with single-component C18200. Precipitation hardening treatment enables chromium particles to distribute evenly in the copper matrix, balancing hardness and conductivity that conventional copper alloys cannot achieve. We adopt vacuum melting production to ensure clean alloy composition and uniform internal grain structure of finished plates.

Core Performance Advantages

The product features stable electrical and thermal conductivity, releasing welding zone heat rapidly to protect electrodes and workpieces during high-frequency operation. It keeps stable hardness and complete electrode geometry after long-term continuous production, lowering dressing times. The optimized alloy structure delivers abrasion resistance and stable edge retention, fitting precision EDM machining for consistent workpiece surface finish. It also resists industrial oxidation, maintaining stable contact resistance and extending service cycle.

Primary Application Scenarios

It is widely used in automotive resistance spot welding, adapting to high-pressure and high-current welding of high-strength steel to avoid electrode sticking and deformation. For precision mold EDM processing, it provides stable dimensional performance for complex cavity machining. It also serves as contact plates for high-voltage switchgear and vacuum circuit breakers, adapting to frequent current surges and thermal cycling to keep stable equipment operation.

Quality Control & Testing Process

All finished plates undergo full-process inspection including raw material screening, in-process monitoring and finished product testing. The final inspection covers eddy current conductivity testing, Rockwell hardness testing, ultrasonic flaw detection, metallographic microstructure analysis and CMM dimensional calibration. All test data is sorted into official MTC documents to support full product traceability for each batch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Why choose this chromium copper plate over pure copper for welding?
A1: Pure copper softens at low temperatures, while the plate keeps stable hardness at 475–500°C, avoiding mushrooming and extending electrode service life.

Q2: What are the differences between C18150 and C18200?
A2: C18150 adds zirconium on the basis of chromium, with better high-temperature softening resistance; C18200 only contains chromium. Both belong to RWMA Class 2.

Q3: Is it applicable for galvanized steel welding?
A3: Yes, it is suitable for galvanized steel welding. Regular tip dressing can remove surface zinc buildup to stabilize welding effect.

Q4: How to guarantee stable conductivity of each plate?
A4: Every finished plate will pass eddy current conductivity testing to meet the ≥80% IACS standard before delivery.

Q5: What storage conditions are required?
A5: Store plates in dry and low-humidity environments to avoid long-term exposure, which prevents surface oxidation and unstable contact resistance.
